Literacy Leadership Program

 

 

The Literacy Leadership Program engages Americorps VISTA members to design and carry out literacy initiatives in partnership with schools and community organizations in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Literacy Leaders help people gain the skills they need to share their stories, achieve their goals and succeed in school and in the workforce. 

Past Literacy Leaders have:

  • Piloted a volunteer-run writers’ room offering support to under-resourced high school students
  • Developed family literacy programs providing ESL education to parents and children
  •  Created digital distance-learning programs for adult ESL students 
  • And much more!
  • Living allowance ($472.22 bi-weekly)

  • $6,095 education award or $1,800 stipend at end of service

  • Health care benefits

  • Federal student loan forbearance

  • Relocation allowance (if moving 50+ miles for service)

  • Trainings and professional development opportunities

  • Resources for career and financial planning

  • CSA shares and cooking classes

  • 18+ years old

  • Able to serve full-time for one year

  • A U.S. citizen, legal permanent resident, asylee, refugee or DACA recipient

Literacy Minnesota’s Literacy Leadership Program works with Americorps VISTA to place energetic leaders with organizations looking to launch or expand literacy programming.
