Host AmeriCorps VISTA
Literacy Minnesota places AmeriCorps VISTA members with organizations across Minnesota and the United States. We offer two different VISTA programs: the Literacy Leadership Program and Summer Reads. Find out which is the best fit for your organization.
Consider hosting a Literacy Leader if your organization:
- Serves individuals living in poverty.
- Wants to expand or improve upon its ability to address the literacy needs of children, adults or families from low-income communities.
- Has an idea for Literacy Leaders to complete a three-year capacity-building project to increase effectiveness of literacy-focused programs, and/or to develop new or expand existing services.
- Has the ability to provide consistent on-site supervision and support for this yearlong service opportunity.
Consider hosting a Summer Reads Mentor if your organization:
- Serves children entering grades K-5 from low-income families.
- Runs during the summer months, June to August.
- Is looking to provide a clear focus on literacy through academics or enrichment.
- Has a need and opportunities for members to serve directly as mentors or program facilitators.
- Is able to offer consistent support and guidance to Summer Reads members over the summer.
