A Letter From The Executive Director

February 2022

Dear Literacy Minnesota Volunteers,

Spring is a time of new beginnings and as we head into spring, I am writing to you with news of a transition for me and for Literacy Minnesota.

After giving it much thought, I have decided to step down as Literacy Minnesota's executive director. I’ve had the unique pleasure of holding the best job in the known universe for 22 years, but now I am ready for a change. I believe new executive leadership at this pivotal moment will create and drive Literacy Minnesota’s strategic vision to advance equity and justice and ensure life-changing learning is within everyone’s reach. At the same time, our board of directors has agreed to create a new position, interim managing director of digital strategies, that I will move into later this spring. In this role, I will assist with the transition and focus on national partnerships and digital strategies such as Northstar Digital Literacy and digital navigation.

Our phenomenal board will soon launch an expansive and deliberate national search to fill the executive director post from a diverse a pool of candidates. In the meantime, they will bring on an interim executive director to oversee day-to-day operations and support the wonderful work Literacy Minnesota is known for.

We are far from farewell at this moment, but I thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to our learners during this transitional time. I look forward to seeing Literacy Minnesota remain the dynamic, exemplary agency for literacy education it has become over the past 50 years.

With gratitude,

Eric Nesheim, Executive Director
