Purpose:  To help keep learners focused and present on the class topic

Preparation Time:  none

Materials Needed:  Blank bingo grid

Procedure:

  1. Tell the learners the lesson topic.
  2. Have the learners brainstorm what they think will be seen or discussed during the lesson. Write the words and phrases on the board (9, 16, or 25 words depending on the size of the blank bingo grid).
  3. Have the learners copy the words and phrases down in random order on their blank bingo grid. If teaching remotely, have the learners draw a grid in their notebooks to fill in.
  4. Throughout the lesson, the learners will tick off the words and phrases that they hear (when first introducing this activity, you may want to pause deliberately a few times during the lesson and cue learners to check their grids and mark what they heard).
  5. At the end of the lesson, do a quick check in to see if any learners got a bingo.
