Debbie is responsible for the operational oversight of the organization in human resources, technology, finance, and facilities; she also identifies new growth opportunities. Debbie joined the literacy council in 2006 and has over 20 years of human resources and management experience, including previous positions in the nonprofit sector at the Center for Victims of Torture and Resource Center of the Americas. Debbie also spent two years living in Mexico, studying Spanish and working in human rights with Mexican nonprofits. Her understanding of the critical importance of literacy grew out of this variety of experiences working with immigrants and refugees. Earlier in her career, Debbie worked for five years in a corporate human resources setting in manufacturing, and spent four years in the public sector. She has a B.A. in International Relations and an M.S. in Human Resources Management, both from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Outside of work Debbie is a parent, gardener and musician.
