Sarah comes to the Minnesota Literacy Council with a background in education and student support, and teaches GED classes at the Open Door Learning Center – Arlington Hills. Sarah grew up in a small town on the prairie in southwestern Minnesota, where reading books and playing outside were the best forms of entertainment. A love of reading and learning helped Sarah succeed as a first-generation college student. Sarah earned a B.S. in Zoology at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and a Master’s degree in Biology from the University of Tulsa. After advising students at the University of Minnesota for 13 years, she decided to focus on grant writing and teaching. Many years of volunteer teaching at the Minnesota Literacy Council convinced her that it was time to help students full-time and share her passion for learning. Outside of the classroom she enjoys watching birds and insects, hiking, scuba diving, gardening, and practicing yoga.
