Patrick Smith

Learning Centers Manager

Patrick Smith is currently a program coordinator at Open Door Learning Center - Arlington Hills. In this role, he recruits, manages, and supports students and volunteer teachers for English as a Second Language (ESL) and Computer classes. Other parts of his job include grant reporting and curriculum management. Before coming to Literacy Minnesota, Patrick worked as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in Ukraine, teaching English in a combined primary/secondary school. He currently serves on the board of the local Peace Corps alumni organization, MNRPCV. His past career experience includes administrative roles in both state government and business. Patrick graduated summa cum laude from the University of Minnesota with a BA in English and Russian. Outside of work, his interests include music, running, and the outdoors. From his time volunteering as an ESL teacher, to teaching English abroad, to interning and then working for Literacy Minnesota, Patrick’s passion for literacy and education has been a constant theme. He values being a part of Literacy Minnesota's mission to serve those seeking a better life through education and is always inspired by his students.
