Kiana is the Blended Learning ESL Teacher at Open Door Northside and Northeast. Kiana joined Literacy Minnesota in 2016 as a volunteer classroom assistant at Open Door Lake Street. She is an AmeriCorps alumna and is honored to continue serving language learners through teaching. Prior to settling in Minneapolis, Kiana earned her BA in Sociology along with a TESOL Certificate from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. She continued her education at Hamline University in the Adult Basic Education Graduate Studies Certificate program. Her passion for empowerment through literacy is reflected in the poem progress by Rupi Kaur. Kaur writes, “Our work should equip the next generation of women to outdo us in every field. This is the legacy we leave behind." Beyond the classroom, Kiana enjoys creating new recipes in the kitchen, browsing the stacks of local libraries for good reads and dancing outdoors at live music performances.
