Burgen Young

Instructional Manager

As the Instructional Manager, Burgen Young supervises Open Door Learning Center teachers in the areas of curriculum and instruction. She also manages special projects related to curriculum development. She has worked in Adult Basic Education (ABE) for over 10 years and in that time has presented at numerous local and statewide conferences. Burgen participates in the Minnesota Language and Literacy Advisory Team, the Minnesota College and Career Readiness Standards Implementation Team, and is a former member of the MN ABE Statewide Professional Development Committee. In 2003 Burgen earned a 4.0 GPA dual master’s degree in TESOL and Linguistics from Ball State University. She holds a Minnesota teaching license in English Language Arts. Burgen loves to support diverse educators as they get better at something they love to do: sharing the power of learning. Outside of work, Burgen enjoys getting outdoors with her husband and two daughters as well as cooking for special diets and reading non-fiction.
