Barbara Murphy

Barb has been working in the field of education for over 35 years, beginning her career in the elementary classroom. In 2000 she discovered her true passion in the field of teaching English as a Second Language to adult learners while working in the Sauk Rapids public school district. For 13 years she taught ESL levels ranging from low-literacy to high intermediate, as well as a pre-CNA course and job-site specific English at Stearns Manufacturing Co. In 2013, she moved to St. Paul and began working for Literacy Minnesota where she currently teaches Level 1-2 learners full-time. Barb earned her BS in Elementary Education from the University of North Dakota and her MA Degree in TESL from St. Cloud State University. Listening to music, reading, playing cards and board games, and connecting with family and friends are some of the things Barb enjoys in her down-time. Devouring books since childhood, Barb believes every human, young and old, deserves exposure to and pleasure from reading. It is her mission to bring successful learning to each of her students in a fun and engaging atmosphere, often via music and movement.
